Once upon a time, five brave women brought together the fractured governments of the Nine Kingdoms. Their names were Riding Hood, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Gretel and Snow White. They brought a new age of peace and enlightenment to the Nine Kingdoms. Happily ever after didn’t last as long as they had hoped. Slowly, the kingdoms fell into decline. The protégé of the Wicked Queen who tried to kill Snow White attempted regicide on the House of White. She was imprisoned, sentenced to one thousand years in near-solitary confinement, only a dog to keep her company. She escaped, and plotted to conquer the Nine Kingdoms.

But she did not succeed.

She was defeated by Virginia, Wolf, Prince Wendell, and Anthony; the Four Who Saved the Nine Kingdoms. Prince Wendell was crowned King of the Fourth Kingdom, and in his example, he lead the Nine Kingdoms to a new age of prosperity, aided by Anthony the Valiant. With the power of steam, Anthony brought an industrial revolution. A revolution that some did not want....

Welcome to the Nine Kingdoms.

GesMa takes place fifty years after canon (The Tenth Kingdom miniseries), or about two generations. King Wendell and Anthony have brought about an industrial revolution in the Fourth Kingdom. The technology was sold to the rest of the Nine Kingdoms for an acceptable sum. Anthony, mindful of how damaging certain pollutions are, created a steam technology that is far gentler on the environment. What the human scientists and engineers have not realized is that the technology eats away at magic. Very few people have realized this. Enchantresses and warlocks are some of that few, but due to their spiteful nature, they have simply moved away from the cities. The fey folk of the Seventh Kingdom have slowly withdrawn, not understanding what about technology they abhor so. Dwarves are the only people who have managed to merge technology and magic seamlessly. But they are not a prolific people, and prefer to keep to themselves.

A pair of witches, Sorrel and Fennel, want to end the technology. And their method lies in destroying those who fund the research, the royalty of each country. They discovered the Queen Kriemhild's magic mirrors, and they discovered why her mirrors were so much more powerful than the others. To boost her powers, she had trapped people within them and drew upon their power as well as the mirror's own. They freed the people within the mirrors, and convinced them to join their cause. The people trapped within the mirrors, named das Spiegelbild by the twins, have soaked in magic for over a hundred years. They have their own powers, unique and strange. The twin witches are also teaching them magic, witchcraft, if they are so inclined to learn. With this new, supernatural threat, the guardians of the Nine Kingdoms have started to awaken. As of now, they have two missions: find the other guardians, and find the Moon Princess. They are guided by their fairy godmothers, Rapunzel and Gretel. Prince Charming has his own fairy godmother, Rose Red.
